The events a Baron/ess should try to make on a regular basis if they are close and otherwise whenever possible:
- Baronial business meetings
- Your barony’s events (the host has to show up). Plan on holding Baronial Court.
- Kingdom events, especially Crown Tourney – the baronage “ratifies” the result by their presence – and Coronation
- Baronial fighter practice
- Baronial activities – dance nights, sewing gatherings, guild meetings, whatever your barony has on a regular basis
- Events in neighboring baronies
- Royal invitations to dinners or gatherings
- Unevent
If that doesn’t sound like too much, stop and count for a moment: there are twelve Kingdom level events a year. You have twelve baronial business meetings not counting any special project meetings. There are two Crown Tourneys and two Coronations a year here in Atlantia. Fighter practice tends to be every week, and activity groups tend to each meet once a month.
You may wish to keep your own interests going while you are Baronage, or at least pay attention to the community – so add their activities to your calendar as well.
If you’re attending a War – say, Pennsic or Gulf Wars, two that Atlantians tend to show up for in numbers – there will be more appointments to keep. For instance:
- Declaration of War, with the Kingdom processions
- Knowne World Arts and Sciences display
- Any Queen’s Tea or similar Royally hosted activity
- Kingdom Court and party
- Baronial Court if you hold one
- Of course, if you fight you’ll want to be on the battlefield. Wear a Baronage tabard. Yes, it makes you more of a target, but your people will be proud to fight alongside you, and when the King calls you’ll be there.
- Any tourney or competition where your barony is represented. Got rapier fighters? Find out which competition means the most to them and be there. Archers? Try to go shoot for War Points at least once, and attend Atlantia-sponsored St. Sebastian Shoot. Got a first time getting authorized? Be there to congratulate them when they pass.
If you are in a partnership, you can divide and conquer some of these, though there are a few (Baronial Court) that you will both need to attend.
